A friend of mine has one of the very few 4.1 cars ever built in the SF Bay Area- a certain Grey Black spec with all of the red bits deleted from factory. I’ve been fortunate enough to drive that car in stock form and after 4.1 conversion. Truly a bucket list experience, and one of very few ever made, last update I heard- from the horses mouth itself, only 6 had been built. This was about 2 yrs ago, not sure if anymore have been added to the list since.

All 348 Challenge cars started out as ordinary road cars that were converted by the dealer for the Challenge series. The factory cars you are mixing them up with were 348GTCs. Even the first 355 Challenge cars were dealer fitted kit cars up until late 1996 when 355s went to 5.2 Motronic.
